Pages R3–R5: Imig JD. "20-HETE or EETs: which arachidonic acid metabolite regulates proximal tubule transporters and contributes to pressure natriuresis?" (http://ajpregu.physiology.org/cgi/content/full/287/1/R3). The editorial focus incorrectly stated in the first paragraph that "The report by dos Santos et al. (6) in this issue of the American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology provides initial evidence that CYP450 metabolites of arachidonic acid contribute to the decrease in proximal tubule Na+-K+-ATPase activity and internalization of NHE3." An earlier study by Zhang et al. (1) reported the first indication that a CYP450 metabolite might be involved in internalization of NHE3 protein from the brush border of the proximal tubule in response to an elevation in renal perfusion pressure. These investigators demonstrated that cobalt chloride, which induces heme oxygenase, oxidative stress, and decreases CYP450 enzymes blunts pressure natriuresis and the internalization of NHE3 protein in the proximal tubule. Additionally, they demonstrated that 2 days of cobalt chloride treatment attenuated the renal perfusion pressure-induced decrease in fractional lithium excretion and Na+-K+-ATPase activity.
