Cover Cover: Effect of elevation in renal perfusion pressure (RPP) on the distribution of NHE3 protein in the proximal tubule of rats. At a normal RPP of 120 mmHg, NHE3 protein (green) is located primarily on the brush border of the proximal tubule. As shown, after RPP is increased to 150 mmHg for 15 min, the NHE3 protein is internalized into subapical endosomes and colocalizes with the cytoplasm of the cell (stained in red), yielding a yellow color. Chronic treatment of the rats with the cytochrome P450 inhibitor, ABT, prevented the internalization of the NHE3 protein and blunted the pressure natriuresis response. From: E. A. Dos Santos, A. J. Dahly-Vernon, K. M. Hoagland, and R. J. Roman. Inhibition of the formation of EETs and 20-HETE with 1-aminobenzotriazole attenuates pressure natriuresis. Am J Physiol Regul Integr Comp Physiol 287: R58-R68, 2004.
